Hi guys

awesone site
im planning on building this and I have all the parts except for the rkcstr test load
is there any way I could build my own and if so what parts do i need and how do I put them together?

also I figure googles would be a good idea. Anybody know where I can get some good enough to keep my eyes safe but cheap enough for a student to afford?

thx

Hey Strch,

I replied to your PM and updated my first post in this thread with a overall schematic of how everything connects together.

And yes you can make your own test load. I believe it is just 6 1N2001 (not sure on the #'s there, but its something like that) silicon diodes in series which is in series with a 1 ohm resistor. the resistor end goes to + on the driver and silicon diode end goes to -. then measure mV over the 1 ohm resistor and 1mV will = 1mA so you can see the current.

And this is a great source for 405nm goggles.

thanks,
Kendall

No. We routinely run these at 300mA.

I have no idea what happened. There is not enough info to know.

Peace,

He was talking about a red 16x dvd burner laser diode (650nm). not a blu ray one.

but for a 6x laser diode you could do 200mA and get around 190-210mW output.

I'll be making a [link=http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1233099743/0#0]MXDL 6x laser[/link] using one of [link=http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1202452073/0#0]JayRob's heat sinks[/link] tomorrow !! can't wait.

Is there any way of saving the original LED lens cover on the dorcy jr? or is it a case of just breaking it out?

Yeah, you could desolder it off. I've noticed they use some weird solder on the LED, you have to get your iron really really hot just to melt it... but yeah you can get it off.

even when you break it off, there are still small metal parts sticking out that you can attach something on to and probably have the LED work.

you never know these things... would rather keep it in tact. *But from your reply, i gather its not possible.

Edit: Cheers sk8er. I actually meant the glass cover at the tip of the torch. I will be saving the LED. I have noticed that it is not as bright as the cree c3, even though there both 1watt (i think).

You just push it out the back of the flashlight "head." Then you can keep it in a jar on your desk forever.

It would interfere with the laser's operation (focusing, fluorescing, burning, etc.)

Peace,
dave
