I am thinking of buying this laser module from DTR: 2W Copper 445nm M140 Blue Laser Module W/X-Drive & 405-G-2 Glass Lens | eBay

In the description it mentions "Input voltage range is 6V-8.4V. Great for use with two Li-Ion's or Lipo's. Suggest two 16340/18350/18650 3.7V Li-Ion's"

So.. I cannot use this at all with a 18650 battery? Will is simply not provide enough voltage and thus not enough power? Or how does it work..

Right you can't use just 1x18650 but if your host can fit 1x18650 it will 2x16340.

Keep in mind, input current is 1.5A+/- 0.5A. Make sure the cells you choose can handle a 2A draw, to be safe ;)

You won't find a better 16340 or 18350 than the AW cells. They are on spec, discharge like champs(8C for the IMR's), they don't sag voltage and survive many charging cycles.

With the XXXXfire brand batteries it is more where you get them than the name that the cell has been wrapped with. Lot of fakes using poor protection cells or repackaged used ones out there and the genuine ones if that is what you actually end up getting are not the greatest cells out there to begin with.

With that said I have many times used 18350 XXXXfire branded cells with these X-Drive dropins but I have had a lot that sag voltage, protection circuit goes off prematurely, they discharge themselves over time even going past the minimum making them unable to be charged or they just don't last many charging cycles. On the upside they are cheap and replacing them is not that expensive.
