Exclamation Help repairing laser pointer from 1998

Hi all! my Father has an old laser pointer from 1998 that was originally his Fathers (My Grandpa) who has since past away years ago.
I believe he lost it quite awhile back and it happened that I found it a couple of days ago and discovered that the batteries leaked and got all over the internals..
Sorry I'm very new to this but I think its called the "driver"? anyway, I can't seem to find a replacement driver so that I can swap them out.
The pointer is a 5mW with a wavelength of 630-680 (says on the pointer). If there is anyway someone could help me out I would be so grateful I figure It would be a nice Fathers day gift for him.

You could unsolder the pins from the ld and then solder a new laser driver. Or just get a new ld with a driver allready soldered on.

P.S Make a thread in Welcome section so we would know wich country are you at.

Are you sure the corrosion can't be cleaned off and the unit might still function?

Sincerely investigate any of these three short quotes as new concepts and you've taken your first step into a larger world:

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness..." - Max Planck. "Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real" - Neils Bohr. "What we call physical things and events do not exist independently of subjective experience..." - Deepak Chopra.

Each of these three rabbit holes go deep, ending up in the same place.

Useless troll fighting.

I would try some 90ish% iso alcohol on the board, don't get it on the LD though.

The driver is probably okay and just needs a cleaning. I would try scrubbing it in soap/water or possibly vinegar. I'm not sure isopropanol will clean the alkaline electrolyte well.

You can try cleaning off that corrosion with some vinegar, and then neutralizing that with some baking soda. Rinse it off with some distilled water and/or alcohol, make sure everything is dry and then clean up/resolder the solder-joints that were affected.
