Default Help with my first build

Iíve been reading this forum for some time now and was hoping to get some of the veterans expertise. Iíve read the Tutorials, Help & Repairs forum many time and itís a huge help but I was hoping for some more tutelage on my first build. So far Iíve purchased a rckstr driver (after reading more I think a flexdrive would have been a better option, but I already have the rckstr so I kinda wanted to use it, but if everyones opinion is to use the flexdrive I will change), Glass Collimating Optics for the 12mmX30mm laser diode module, LPC-815 20X DVD burner diode, Aixiz Diode Housing, and a MXDL 3405 host.
My plan was to power it with 3X10440 (3.6V x 3 = 10.8V). I do need a heat sink which I see Jayrob could make. Even though Iíve done a TON of reading Iím very new at electronics. I have made my test load according to mfoís guide.
Will this set up work? If so, should I set my driver to 400ma? Also, with the 10440s, is the whole casing positive? And if so, how would I wire everything.
I know I have a lot to learn but Iím very eager to do so. Iím definitely hooked on lasers now, this build is all I can think about.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

here is a tutorial for the mxdl, btw i would go with the mxdl 4171 host as it runs of rcr123's and have a higher capacity meaning longer life between charges.

this is for blu-ray but it would be the same if it were red...

Thanks for the tutorial Stuart! I will definitely use this. I see your point about the rcr123's having a higher capacity but two of those would give me 7.2V. As I understand it the rckstr driver requires at least 7.25V. So that was my thinking of using 3X10440s, it would insure I have plenty of power. Money is short so I was just trying to use the parts I have.

I might just have to purchase the 4171 with heatsink combo with the flexdrive "hot option" but I'd like to make it work with the parts I have.

Wow I thought it was self explanatory that my heatsink design fits inside the final retaining ring of the host! He had it on the outside just hanging loose??

Also, in that style of the ever changing 4171 host, there is a resistor buried inside the silicone glue (in the pill) that needs to be removed...

It's good to show videos and 'how to' information, but I had to chime in on this video because it is showing several things that you do not want to do with this build. (Sorry if this sounds harsh to the person who made the video) It's a good thing that you are sharing, but just some corrections is all...

And finally, depending on the driver, 2 X RCR123 batteries is not a proper supply source for a blu-ray build...

No offense intended, because obviously your motive is to help, and that is good.

But this is not a good video to show as a tutorial!

actually rckstr drivers need 2.25v + Vf of the diode so for a red 2.25+3 = 5.25v you only need 7v+ with bluray diodes

10440 batteries drop very quickly under loads so expect the lifetime of the laser between charges to be <1hr

IMO the rcr123 host if you're using a rckstr driver is a much better choice but its up to you

well the battery supply is fine for a red build though with a rckstr driver, and no offense taken
