Help with disassembly of a pen

I purchased a cheap (8 USD including shipping) eBay 5mW green laser pointer to use as a host (it looks like laserlands short nose pointer). However, it seems to function very well for the price. Nice, bright and clean beam.
Well, to the question. I checked some disassembly guides to get an idea how these were put together, but this seems to be put together differently.
After removing the nose the module seems to be threaded to a aluminum sleeve, which in turn seems to be glued (or pressed) in to the host body.
Looking from battery side, there is the spring and foam around it. After removing the foam, there is a black plastic half circle shaped PCB support.

I tried light tapping of the sleeve, but it would not break free and I wanted to check if anyone has taken apart this type of ponter, before using more strength and bigger tools :thanks:

Cant say I have but there are many lasers being sold on ebay. Might help if you post a pic or two so we can get a better understanding of how your laser is constructed.

I've had good luck with heating up the host slightly with a hair dryer then using a tube with an OD the same as the ID of the host. Press the tube in from the back, pushing the module up and out of the front.
You might have to put some force into it, the module won't just slip out.
Make sure you are on the back of the modules case, not the PCB or plastic support.(the tube needs to be thin walled)
Some of them are glued in so well, the host must be destroyed to remove the module.
Most of this style will come apart with the proper tools, (the tube) and a little "persuasion"

If you remove the lens (unscrew it) you will be able to thread an aixiz module into the brass module. You can then thread an aixiz lens half way into the aixiz module and then thread another aixiz module (with back attached) onto the aixiz lens. This will leave a good portion of the aixiz module sticking out of the pen host. You can grip the aixiz module with a vice and pull the green module out.
I hope what I was explaining made enough sense.
This method works for me 100% without ever damaging a host.

Yes, it make perfect sense.
The same basic Principal as the external, female thread ones. Which you can wrap in a cut-up soda can and duct tape, then put in a vice. Then do the old "wiggle and pull".
Only on these, you need something to grab onto. Thanks for sharing this.
I have never damaged a host with my method either, but it's good to have a plan "B"

I'm having same concern as jankro and want to take appart the exact same laser pen. I tried a lot of things, looked at a lot of videos and cut myself a couple of time with useless tools before coming here. I even broke a couple of lasers too. After reading these posts it seems to me that it's not so complicated. On the other hand, I don't understand all the procedure.

For the first part I'm Ok but when you talk about "threading an aixiz module", is it the part on the top left of this image :

I found this image simply by searching "Aixiz module" on eBay. It says 12x30mm so I guess it should fit.

So you're just putting this part into the host, right?

Just to be sure (I don't want to waste my money), I'll need to buy 2 aixiz module, right? Or do the soda-can method could avoid me from buying these modules?
And then you just pull the laser module in the pen host with your hand (on the vice grip, attached to the double aixiz module/soda-can-duct-tape thing)?

I'm sorry if i'm being repetitive but english is not my native language and I just want to be sure that I've understood everything.

Yes, you will need two Aixiz modules.

You'll need to connect two of the module "heads" by threading them together with a lens, and screw one side into where you unscrewed the lens.
Once it is secure, stick the exposed part of the aixiz module (use the "back" of the module for extra length) in a vice and pull.
If there is any adhesive around the inside of the pen casing, remove it so the module can be pulled out smoothly.

If you plan to modify a working laser in any way, be sure you want to risk permanent damage.

First of all thank a lot for your answer, it'll help me out!
For the adhesive thing I'm not sure at all, it doesn't seem like there's some kind of glue or whatever but if there's no adhesive I don't understand how the laser module could stand in place. Here is 2 pictures of my pen :





The module is around 1 inch deep in the host. The len is a little different from Jankro's one because it's a 405nm laser pen but I guess it doesn't really matter.

I'm waiting to hear from you before trying to pull the module out. As for the risk of damaging the laser I'm aware of it

The laser you have looks like it uses the same lens that the Aixiz modules use.
In this case you will only need one aixiz module to thread onto the lens that is already in place. Make sense?

I think Those Pictures he just took in post # 10 are with the Aixiz lens he put in to do the mod that you suggested to pull the module out. If you look at the OP you can see the lens that comes with the laser. The 1 pictures above is what was in the OP and what is in the laser stock..

The pictures klm1234 took are of the 405nm version of this laser, which apparently uses the Aixiz lens to focus the beam.
The inquiry about the green variant in the original post was from someone else.

Thank you for this! I never would have thought to remove the lens and yank'er out!

so instead of creating a new thread ill just post here...im trying to take apart my green lazer that is much like the original posters...i got it from a store in the mall by me called unusual jacks and the lazer just says laserpointer on it...i can unscrew the lens on the end but it looks like it has to be taken out of the bottom....and i think the board needs to be screwed out but im not sure as it looks like the button would get in the way....any help would be good...
