Hey, first off, I have searched around a bit but have yet to find what I was looking for. I'm pretty new to lasers and know a little but not a while lot about them. I've taken a few cheapies apart and played with them just to learn a bit. Well, I bought the "200mw" 405nm pen style offline for around 60 bucks. Well, I dropped it, and it stopped working. So I took this one apart to see what was up. As soon as i pulled it apart, a little tesla type coil fell out. It appears it has come unsoldered from the board. Below is a picture of the coil and you can see where it is attached to. What is the purpose of this coil?? I assume it has the purpose of any other coil to regulate voltage and all that jazz. But I was hoping someone was more familiar with y little set up here and may be able to guide me a bit. Is this nec here, can it be replaced with something else that may give this laser more power when I put it back together such as a resistor? Like I said, I'm new at this so I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. Also, there appears to be a ground wire coming off of the board. Is this just supposed to touch the inner barrel? Can it touch the metal showing on the outer area of the diode? It looks like this is how it was set up before.

heres a picture to clarify: the part where the coil connects to is right net to the spring, fts between the two solder areas, soldered on both sides.

it's an inductor... yeah.. you kinda need it to be back on the board.

haha alright, figured as much, I'll solder it back. What about the ground wire. It looks like the case should be positive. Is this not a ground wire, because for some reason it doesnt seem like it would make sense if the case was positive and the was a ground touching it as well

If its case positive then that would make your spring the ground and that wire your positive contact. Make sure when you put the assembly back into the barrel that the wire makes a firm connection to the host for a solid positive contact.

Hope you get it working again with that driver, although if it doesn't work you always have alternative drivers available on this forum in the B/T/S section.

Flexdrive. You might as well go all the way and buy a PHR diode too. They are cheap.

On eproblem you might into by buying a new driver, would be knowing how much juice to give your diode... those pens use unknown diodes.

Thats why I suggested a PHR. They are cheap and you know they can handle the juice.

got it all fixed, and turned the pot up while it was out. all is well :) I do have another question though? I have a spare driver from a 50mw green pen. Can i put that driver on a red diode? I have a red pen as well thats pretty weak. pulled it apart and its junk. all hot glued together, nothing is on the board at all.
