Help! Black laser! Omni 532 Argon

Hey guys,

So I picked up a Omnichrome 532 recently and I'm a bit disappointed. The tube was recently replaced in 08 by Evergreen USA. The tube has 24 hours of use on it. That means the tube is practically a baby! So this thing "should" run pretty hot. It just won't start! OMGZORZ A BLACK LASER LULZ! (Couldn't resist sorry! I promise to be serious now)

Now to start off I do not know if this laser is gas intact or not. I'm working on getting an oudin coil for this reason.

The problem I am having is the laser won't ignite (It ticks but the ticks are barely audible. I can almost not hear them) I'm thinking the issue lies within the starter or booster. The filament is clearly working as I can see it glowing when I look down the bore of the tube. What I can't see is starter pulses. I was under the impression that you could see the starter pulses if the starter was good? If so then that means my starter or booster aren't working properly and I'm honestly not sure what the next step would be as far as troubleshooting is concerned. I know that an oudin coil would be of great use to me right now (hopefully). I just don't have access to one at this time. I would also like the oudin coil to be a "temporary" solution to this problem. I do not want to need it every time I start my argon.

I'm hoping someone can guide on how to safely test the components to try and rectify the problem. I also wouldn't mind trying some alternative things for the time being. I'm going to assume that the starter on my Cyonics boxstyle psu starter will not work for testing this tube since the geometry of both tubes are entirely different therefore the larger tube will blow my smaller PSU?

Let me know what I should do next here.

Thanks!
Jeff

I was eyeing this eBay listing :p

The Oudin won't help much without an igniter pulse, unfortunately (as far as I know. I'm not argon expert haha). The Oudin will be useful for assessing whether the tube is good or not though.

I have an ALC 60X with Omni PSU that I'm slowly giving up troubleshooting, mine is giving off nice flashes from the igniter but still not lighting  I think my PSU may have issues, it was modded by someone before the previous owner got possession of it (or so I am led to believe)

You are one lucky person if you can get yours working :p

PS: if, by any chance, you are interested in my ALC 60X, Omni PSU, and/or my Oudin, I'm practically at the point of giving up and selling it

I ended up getting that laser for a decent price too. I really hope to get it working! It just amazes me that this tube is SO young! Which is why I can't wait to see it laze!

Actually I FORGOT to mention that I can hear the starter ticking. The problem with the ticking is if I didn't know what to listen for. I would have never heard it. The ticking noise is so quiet its almost nonexistent! Which is another reason it leads me to believe the starter is shot.

Yeah, I was reading your thread. I might be interested in your laser, psu and oudin coil if you completely give up. I'm by far no expert on argon lasers but I believe yours does sound like an issue with the PSU or high pressure.

I'm quite sure it has to do with the PSU, if it was high pressure the Oudin would've fired it at least once through all of my ticking time trying to get it to light :p

Which is why I was eyeing that listing, I need that PSU :p
