Yes, it will still work. Is it a press fit?

And as ElektroFreak mentioned, if you use thermal compound, use sparingly. You just don't want any of it to get warm and work it's way onto the diode...

yeah i was gonna leave the back on the aixiz housing and use the thermal paste on the outside of the housing between it and the heatsink. its a good tight fit. thnx.

It should be sticking out the end with the ridges, not the smooth end. Not that think it will make -that- much difference in performance, but at least it'll look better
