Hello. Few hours ago i found and old dvd burner and i got a red laser out of it. And now i want to build a handheld laser.

What do i need? What kind of lense, what kind of driver?

(Please link Europe selling websites or ebay if possible)

And what nm do red dvd lasers have? So i can buy appropriate protection glasses for it.

Thanks.

You can buy this driver:
Nautilus Integration Micro FlexDrive V5
You can buy this host:
Survival Laser C6 Host Assembly
This pill:
Driver Pill & Brass Ring
This contact board:
Survival Laser Driver
This module:
12mm Diode Module & Focusing Ring for 5.6mm Diodes
This lens:
635-685nm AR Coated Acrylic Lens Assembly
And these safety glasses:
Eagle Pair® 190-400nm & 580-760nm Laser Safety Goggles
And then you just need an 18650 battery and charger then you're ready to go!

In total... $57.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy an already assembled laser for that price?

Thanks.

Maybe but half the fun of a laser is building it.
Plus it will be higher quality than any Chinese laser you buy.
You could make a lab style laser for the price of just a module and lm317 driver.
About 6 bucks if you want to go that route.

Hm... Is it technically possible to make a handheld laser for <$20?

Technically, maybe yes, but it would suck.
You should just spend the extra money to build a laser you have some pride in and enjoy using.
