MANY cheap modules (especially in pen lasers) are only rated for 60-90 second burns.

Peace,

Check the switch and connections.
Bypass it if you can, to see if that's the problem.
A lot of modules have garbage switches in them.

I suppose the benefit is from the host being a good heatsink, not from a faulty switch to begin with. A major problem with green lasers is that they are very temperature sensitive, and may dim from the module heating up after some time more than anything else.

Faulty switch problems do exist though - especially in pointers where you have to keep a button pressed for continous output. They often use small circuitboard mount switches that are by no means rated for the current running through them.

I just got a cheapy ultra violet laser in today. Lasted all of 5 minutes before the light went dim. I've let it sit fo 10-15 minutes, still very dim. Changed the batteries, same thing.

I got it from BuyInCoins through ebay for like $10 shipped. Cheap yes, but I expected a little more than 5 minutes out of it.

This is the one I purchased.

5mW 405nm Violet Purple Blue-Ray Blue Laser Pointer Pen - eBay (item 280472503506 end time Mar-31-10 19:07:53 PDT)

Any suggestions?

Ya. Don't expect cheap lasers (purchased for >$4.00) to last very long.
