Question Green Laser Protection Goggles on Ebay for $7 actually work?

So I found this:

Code:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Protection-Goggles-Laser-Safety-Glasses-Green-Blue-/120535463621?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c107936c5
These Goggles are only $7 and they Claim:

"Complete protection from 190nm to 540nm."

These things are from china and they look pretty cheap -- I just got my hands on This:
Code:
http://dillyeo.com/ultra-power-200mw-green-laser-pointer-3-in-1-9-led-flash-light
200mW Green and I'm wondering if these goggles can actually protect my eyes.

Thanks!

I think the cheapest you can find is something like these from O-like.

Notice that they state protection level.
It is the "(OD+5,OD+6)" where the OD refers to how much the goggles absorb in factors of ten.

The ones you are (unsuccessfully) linking to are likely just red tinted plastic.
I actually bought some similar ones, they did not work.

ETA: The chances of that laser actually being 200mW are close to zero, you are paying for less than 50mW and that is most likely what you will get.
The match burning mentioned will, if true, be achieved by the IR part of the laser beam.

Note that the specs on those o-like goggles are fake, so the cheap china stuff may just be the same but cheaper.

Default Re: Green Laser Protection Goggles on Ebay for $7 actually work?

Toke poses a valid point that I have been considering during all my reading.
I purchased these:
Green Blue Laser Eye Protection Safety Glasses Goggles - eBay (item 270622771096 end time Aug-25-10 22:29:58 PDT)

They are for green & blue. From the greens I have, overspec 5mw(25-30mw) & 200mw DX module(125-150mw max), FocalPrice 200mw Keychain (?mw), they seem to work fine and I'd say they would be good up to maybe 500mw of green(the glasses).

Here enters the problem I have.......with the cheap greens the higher mw ones do have a better visible beam, but how much more is unfiltered IR?
These glasses aren't gonna protect you unless you can do a filter test on the greens with an IR filter showing the actual output diff. Diff = little to no IR.

Here lies a false sense of security working with greens IMO, at least to me. Short of wearing 2 pair of goggles, finding an IR filtering lens for an AixiZ module or some filter mountable in/on the host, I can be spraying IR everywhere and never "visually" see it.

I'd appreciate input/comments on my concerns.

The most sensible solution is something like this.

There are plenty of options for great protection from 130 and up.

Thanks Toke. +1 (I have to rep someone else before it will let me so I owe you one)
I hadn't found those. Expensive, but what price can you put on your eyesight? NONE.
I don't want to sound like an alarmist, but I hope I'm not over stating with what I said when working with greens. I see it mentioned(IR), but not a whole lot on the concerns or safety emphasized. Unless I just missed it or didn't read the concern at the time. That's possible.

Edit: That frowny may be there for the price, but at least it has 2 eyes!
