Green laser pointer problem

So I brought a 500mw green laser pointer on a site (link).

It comes home today at 13:00 and after some tests I put the battery to recharge. Overall everything was right for around six hours. But them when night comes and I tried to use it, it had some problems (it was quite shocking since it's not the first laser to have this kind of problem).

Instead of the strong green beam, it became a tiny green dot. On dark I can also see a red light coming from it. It seems that the problem increased as a few hours passed.

After I twisted the "head" off, I looked inside of it, and I noticed the following: there is a lens with a small lens/glass under it. Behind that second tiny lens I can see a red light coming off the laser internal circuits (which I suppose is meant to be converted in green light) and it always keep working while I press the button, but the (green) light that pass through the secondary tiny lens don't, it simply disappear a second later!

So does my laser is broken and I should call the seller to replace it?

Thanks! :cryyy:

Okay, I will try not use the laser. But what exactly you mean by "look into the laser"? You mean looking at an invisible beam coming from the laser like a normal laser pointer, or the red light device behind the tiny secondary lens?

The faint red glow is actually a potentially harmful amount of infrared light. the 808nm light from the pump is lightly visible to the human eye but can still do just as much damage as a visible laser.

Ive never seen that site you linked to, but the fact they are seeing a "500mW' green for 200 tells me your laser maybe an over driven unit for the sake of increased sales. If that is indeed the case your laser may have failed. Have you tried a different set of batteries?

In dollars the cost would be US$120.00. You probably don't know the site because of my country (Brazil). However I don't feel this is the type of website that sell stuff like that, of course I could be wrong...

Still the site has garantee over the product, I might call for a replacement. Should I do it?

And I can't try another battery because I don't have another battery of this type (18650 if I am correct).

Sounds like your crystal fell (or expanded) out of alignment.
Definitely do not look into the laser for any reason.
Return the laser for a refund. You can get several nicer lasers from China for $120.

This is not the first time this happened, last time it was with those conventional black pen-looking lasers... is it just me or it's something related to these blue 4-volts bateries?

I think it's from China these sites gets their lasers

Man! you've been scammed, but well. This laser that you've purchased doesn't has 500mW, no way! Sorry for say this so, but this is. Also doesn't work correctly
This laser at the most... probably has 150-200mw or even less. But no f*cking way 500mW.

I recommend you save some money, and buy in the future, in a online shop with good reputation in the forum.

Well, it takes something like 15 seconds to light a match with this laser. But I don't want to buy a laser from another country, so I am happy this laser. Even if it is not reeeally 500mw, it's much higher than what you normally get here (if you can't trusth the mw number).

Yes, but anyway, no matter that the laser lights matches, a 100mW... also can do this.

If you want have aceptable lasers, you don't have another choice, you should buy from China.

Reegards!
