i got my lava drive tday.. n i hooked it up to my 2AA pack, i was goin to test the mA on it... then it started gettin warm... then almost hot... i tried it with a 3.0V cr1234 n the same thing happened but i didnt let it get as warm as before

what did i do wrong... or what do i need to fix that?

thnx

The lavadrive MUST have a load attached to it (a diode, a test load, etc.)  Otherwise it keeps trying to boost the voltage to make the connection through the air!!!  It is running so much voltage through it that it is heating up and will eventually overheat and die.  USE A LOAD

OOOO... i feel retarded now... lol... thnx ill hook up sum stuff now.. i always thought the test load was sum lil electronic thing that u had to buy n hook up to it... think ill use a dead diode

a test load is something you hook up to it. its a simple circuit board that helps you test the out put of the circuit board while you adjust it

Most boost drivers will die completely and instantly without a load, and I'm pretty sure this was the case with the v1 lava drives.

I think the open circuit protection of the new lavadrives are a zener with a higher voltage than our diode lasers. So I wonder why it would get hot?
