Is this a good host? It's a special Broadcom Hp 9-LED light that my dad got at an expo while revealing Alteris 9 (yes, he helped work on it, the shirts they had were a super fail btw, +rep for whoever knows why ;) ) Anyway, it unscrews from the front, so I figured I'd post some pics, and see if it's a possible host for a Blu-Ray build. well, here's the pics =]

All 4 parts:
from left to right:
Tail cap with clicky ---> batt pack ---> body case ---> 9-LED front 'cap'

Close up of back end, and front end:

Whole thing all put together:

Clicky on the left, 9-LED 'cap' on the right:

If there's anything else you need to see that would help determine whether it's good or not, just let me know ;)

For a nice, light weight flashlight yes, for a laser no.
Plastic is a very good insulator of heat. You want something made of aluminum or copper, even steel. You want the host to draw as much heat as possible, away from the heatsink.
Now I'm not saying it cant be done. If your going for a phr or a 30-50mW green, you should be fine.
You will still need to make or have someone make, a heatsink to fit your chosen host. If your willing to buy or make a custom heatsink. It would be in your better interest to have one made for a more suitable host.
