Good first laser build?

I would like to make my first burning laser and I have been trying to find an easy first build. I read that the Mini Mag build is kinda hard and so is the Star Trek phaser mod... Any ideas for an easy first build?

The bigger the host the easier it is to build, just something to keep in mind.
