Focusable lens help

Hello everyone it has been awhile since i have been on here, but i bought a laser off of someone several months-years ago. Well recently i was playing with it and pointing it at stars and focusing the lens to show how it could project a beam and also widen. Well when i took off the focusing lens, everything fell out and i cant figure out how to put it back together to still project a nice clean beam. Now, no matter what its always wide. I have two lens in the focuser, both are shaped like this:

One is bigger then the other and there is also another round ring, im assuming the hold the lenses in?

Anyone have any ideas?

Pictures may help. the lenses are one element or three element, I am not sure about two elements. Are you sure you didn't loose a lens? Does this laser use a standard Aixiz module 12mm diameter with standard type of lens or is it something non standard?

You probably lost the middle ring with no threads

Yup it was a three element lens. Was being the key word. Sorry to break the news. Don't know how you could use it without one. Good news is you can buy a g2 lens and get up to 30% more power :)

Or for like 15$ get another three element if you're not worried about power and dont want to spend 40$

Hmmmm i might look into the g2 lens for the extra power....but in the mean time.....i have great news i had the ring without threads! So now im going to see if i can get it working again

No reason it won't work as long as you install them correctly. Don't touch them with your fingers though.

i mean i picked them up with my fingers :-/ i could probably alcohol whipe them though right?

what would be the proper way to install them?

Yeah alcohol will work. I use tweezers . Just drop them in alcohol gently. Take them out and let completely dry. You can use a q tip to wic away the moisture. Make sure no strands of cotton are left on the lenses. Then place the barrel upside down . Use tweezers to drop in the thin lens round side down. Then the ring. Then the fat lens again round side down. Then the retainer in just tight enough so there is no play. Sometimes there will be residual alcohol and leave you with an ugly streaky lens. So if you want to do a quick job, just use a lens cleaning cloth or any kind of clean cloth to wipe away your fingers oils. As long as the lenses don't have finger prints all over them and dust you should be ok. The alcohol is if your really wanting to give them a good soak, but it must be a high percentage isopropyl .

From the drawings it appears you have two positive lenses which have to be placed in the right order to create a well collimated beam. Knowing that now, did you look up Keplarian beam expander?

@steve i did not look that up yet...but im about to



....i cleaned my lens and put them back in the order tmack explained. It not looks a lot better but its not right yet. Even when i have it set as close to a beam as i can there is still some like ambient light around the dot....kinda like this:

But with the dot being centered

We call those batwings. They are reflections from the actual opening in the metal focus adaptor. Many lasers have them. So it's back to a dot though?

Search batwings on the search bar

Some if my custom lasers have those. Except for my expensive ones :D
