I got this laser a few months back. Within a few days the particular damage was unknowingly sustained (more explaination further down)
This is the laser as on O-likes site: High power 550mW New portable Green laser torch/IR filtered [OLNGL550] - $675.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products
The switch has been broken since I got it. Until a few days ago it was constantly on, now it changes randomly. Looking inside the battery part seems to indicate that the bit the switch uses for contact with the battery has seperated from the main part you press down. For the most part its ok since I can just use the key to turn it off and on.
The problem this post is about is the amount of scatter around the beam and what I think it is caused by. Here is a shot of the dot.
Note my camera isnt great, and it is actually quite a small dot. You can see, though, that the scatter can be blocked before it reaches the wall, and so isnt just a splash effect from the point the dot contacts the wall.
Since this splash has occured, the ability of the laser to burn has been reduced dramatically.
The laser:
Taking the top off reveals what I assume to be a lense that contributes to beam correction. from what I can see its fine.
Taking that off reveals a lense (originaly, when I didnt know much about lasers, I thought this was the diode. Then, doing some reading, I realised green lasers dont have diodes lol, at least not infront of the crystals). I think the source of the scatter is a very small speck of something on the lense. It seems resistant to cleaning and so is probably structural.
It is encased quite thickly with superglue in parts.
My main areas I would like advice are:
Does anyone know the model of that lense so that I can get a replacement? It would also help if someone knew where I could get the replacement as im sure laser lenses are somewhat more esoteric a topic than the pointers themselves.
How about getting the superglue off?
Are there any other things I should take into consideration in removing and replacing the lense?
Thanks for any advice! :thanks:
