So i got into lasers about a week ago and for some reson i wont be satisfied until i build one,
what im planing on doing is using a Sony NEC Optiarc 20X DVD burner witch if i under stand properly
i should find a standerd red & ir diode, and Aixiz Modules. But what i cant deicide on is what type of driver to use,
i would like it to be small enough to fit in a standerd laser pointer housing but still be able to put out 200-300ma

Just FYI, those open can diodes only out perform the Senkat diodes when they are run at above 320mA's or so. Using acrylic lenses, one comparison I have done is as follows:

Open can diode - 200mW's @ 323mA's
Sony/Senkat diode - 208mW's @ 294mA's

If you want to have more power, the open can diodes are nice at 420mA's (about 250mW's - acrylic lens) But at that power, you would want a nice heatsink...
