Lightbulb experiment-1 my first diode/keychain prj

Hey guys,

I have a very very small keychain led flash light and 5.6mm 1gen dvd player diode.

*This is my first project, and I already think I have damaged the diode however my goal in successfully extracting a diode is complete.

*I understand that it will take much practice and many diodes to perfect this but I was hoping maybe to extract some light from this before I move on maybe just maybe. I have some simple questions for anybody if they have the time..

>the host runs off 2 ag13 aka LR44's which brings total voltage to 3v =1.5 each.
>the connrctor is a metal L shaped bracket which holds the batteries, and has NO WIRES.
>the diode has some circular pcb around it and little bits of solder on the pins Does this need to be removed??? I snipped the cable and stopped because it was very difficult to remove solder with a soldering iron and I didnt want to damage pins. ( I dropped it twince in the process)
>since the case is plastic and cheap, where do I ground?
>how do I use a multimeter to figure out which pins are what.
>if I were to connect the diode positive pin with a wire to the connector L bracket which holds the batteries in place would this provide power?
>there is no space for a driver or any lenz for that matter so I would like to direct drive it just as a practice lesson for this very cheap build.
>I doubt 3v will drive it but hey Im hear for some knowledge and Ive used the search button alot and I believe its time to interact with some people so I can understand this a bit better...

ps please see attached pics

Default Re: experiment-1 my first diode/keychain prj

i hope you realize a dvd player diode will be weak... not really stronger than a regular pointer. by grounding it i'm assuming you mean the negative contact... in which case you'd connect it to the negative contact... lol.
th pinout is the same as this (i dont feel like adding a picture )
you might want to at least add a small resistor and capacitor, even though it's so cheap and the button batteries have so much internal resistance.
you should remove the pcb, yes, but its not necessecary given the seriousness of the build.
you DO realize that without any lense it's gonna look like a REALLY dim flashlight though...
