Hey everyone,
So, I finally got all the parts for my laser except the host, and since I've been waiting for over a month now, I just decided to hook up a 9V and see how it goes.
So, specifics: LPC-815 in an Aixiz module connected to a GhostDrive2 (which, strangely, I ordered to be 395 mA and instead got 375 :rolleyes:), going to a 9V battery through a switch.
So, as you can see in the video, I turn it on and I get two problems.
One, even though I pressed the diode all the way into the module (used a bicycle brake adjuster :crackup:), it's completely unfocused.
Two, as you can see, the diode fades after a few seconds, leaving me with no light. Even if I focus it, it can't burn even right after turning on, despite me having planned this to be 250mW.

If anyone can help me fix either of these two problems, that would be greatly appreciated.

PS: In case you need to know, yes, I did short out the driver wires before connecting the diode.

1. Did you put in the lens in reverse into the module ?
2. The 9V can't deliver the 375mA current for long. Better use a beefier battery like 2x 3.7 Li-ion or 4x AA cells.

1. I'm using the default lens for the Aixiz module, which came with it, so I assume it's in the right way. I can still focus the laser, but when the lens is screwed in all the way, the laser is not focused to infinity. I just find this strange because I'm positive I pressed the diode in all the way.
2. Okay, thank you. I will be using 2x CR123A when my host comes in eventually.

The distance between the back of the lens and the diode is too large to get focus to infinity.

Can you make a closeup picture of the lens and the diode in the module without the lens ?

If the lens is screwed in completely, does the beam have a focal point or is it more like a flashlight?

If there is no focal point you just have to unscrew the lens until its focused to infinity, Aixiz modules are not made for infinity focus when screwed in completely...

The diode isn't push in at all. You need to push further until the back of the diode is flush with the back of the module.

simply looks like your battery is running out....try different batteries.
and what they said about the diode. Once you replace the batteries, and press the diode in all the way, you'll be good.

I tried pressing it in further, but I take it this isn't enough, since it's still defocused...

Personally, I would push the diode into the module a little more, but that's just me.

You need to make sure the side of the lens with the indents on it is facing outwards of the module.

Also, yes, I agree with everyone else; 9volt batteries are not made to supply high currents for any amount of time, and die extremely quickly. They're also expensive too...

See, that's the strange thing. The gap is still there. When I turn the diode on, I see a little light escaping out the back. It's evenly pressed in, and it's still defocused when completely screwed in. But, if what Madeye said is indeed correct, and Aixiz modules are not focused to infinity when the lens is screwed all the way in, I suppose I can't complain.

the aixiz modules aren't made to be focused to infinity when the lens is screwed all the way in.
they would have to sell a separate module for each diode and lens combination in order for that to be feasible.

so just unscrew the lens until it's focused.
