Electric cigarette battery as power source

I was wondering if it would be possible to turn my MVP20W ecigarette battery I no longer use into a power source for a laser?

It is variable voltage/wattage (but the wattage only goes down to 6w) whereas the voltage goes to 3.3v. How it usually maintains this in an electric cigarette is it also has an ohmeter so that it always puts out 3.3v given whatever resistance it senses.

Would this kind of power supply be suitable or does it really need a battery and a driving circuit?

I actually was just looking through some threads and posts and found this:
https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/home/diodes/bdr-209-405nm-16x-diodes

I mean that's nuts because I was going to ask this question before looking around and:

"16X BDR-209 405nm 22mm Module W/Driver &
Three Element Glass Lens
510 Threaded Connection For Easy Incorporation Into Your Labby, Projector, etc...
3V-5.5V Input"

The 510 threads are the exact thing that these ecigs use. I had no idea it was used elsewhere, and not only that it can put out exactly those specs.

Now I'm not buying any 155 dollar module, but I would be interesting in finding some tube I can epoxy one of my 510 connectors to and then mounting a diode in it or something?

You guys have any input about this/suggestions? I'd be much appreciative! My hobby is photography and I'd love to have a 500mw-1w blue laser to paint long exposures with!

What is the highest power that it is generally considered safe to wield without safety glasses becomming mandatory? 20mw or something?

See these.

I would not use anything with a boost driver on a VV/VW mod only Mech mods used as battery tubes. The units with the X-drive will work on some VV/VW mods. See this for details.

If you want a diode that uses a boost you need a mech mod. Check this out for good options.

5mW is considered eye safe.

Oh, I wasn't planning on using that! I was just found it interesting that they existed, is that what they were designed for with the 510 connector?

I was thinking more just taking a cheap diode and soldering it to a 510 connector and cutting up a housing I have from crappy ego pen e cigarettes to hold it.

So I'd take this diode, throw it in the bottom part of this with the battery removed, and then add a 510 connector to the other side.

And by 5mw is eye safe, you mean anything greater than that requires matched wavelength glasses/goggles?

If you don't use a laser driver it will destroy the diode but yes you can use your unit as a battery to power a laser module with driver.

Are there drivers that would fit in such a thing?
