I am now on my second (they replaced the first defective laser) :) but the new one didn't last very long either. Same symptoms; dim output, funky switch, etc. . .
Does anyone have a foolproof disassembly technique without destroying the thing? I've tried heat, brute force all the standard things but this guy doesn't want to come apart. What type of glue do they use? Any hints guys and gals? Thanks.

Hey,

Heat won't help, as the metal in the end cap, will expand making the contact even stronger. What I did was put the cap under a cooling system at -40C, and after 5-10 minutes, wrapped some electrical tape around the end cap and used a pretty big pair of pliers to pull it off.

I think that the strength of the seal depends on the series (some were easy to pull out, while others were nearly impossible).

I don't know what I would have done without the system, perhaps you could use a freezer, cover the hole with tape and just touch the frost of the freezer with only the end-cap, dont know if it will be enough but it should definatily help you taking it apart. If you laser is dimming really quickly after you turn it on perhaps check out my rant in the green section...WTH Newwish you use your brain IIRC. Perhaps you can ass some alu foil to the inside for the module to make contact with the pen it should greatly incrase stability.

Thank you brtaman. Your freezing system did indeed work but I was not able to get this thing to properly function. I'll keep at it before it gets tossed.

Good to hear, that you got it apart.

Did you try adding foil to the space between the pen and the module? I found (since transferring back to pen), that it is working much better than before in the pen case, (the case heats up quickly, sign of good heat transfer). I used aluminum tape exactly once around the module makes for a tight fit. I also pot-moded it a bit, couldn't resist lol, now its a good deal brighter, getting close to my DL 95, and its been modded quite a while now.) Perhaps if you laser is not working too good and you don't feel like sending back again, you could try this combo mod, should help IMO

If you need the foil tape, I can send you some, its not a prob.

Thanks
brtaman
