dvd laser diode heatsink

The best way is to file through or cut the metal slowly until you can pry it apart with a little screwdriver, then the diode will fall right out. Or, depending on the shape and metal of the heat sink itself, you can get two pairs of pliers and just 'snap' the heat sink in half. I wouldn't recommend doing it that way if it's your first time though. Stick with cutting it, thats the most tried and true method.

I use an old broken serrated steak knife to slowly cut through the heat sink. :D

or a dremmel tool?

Whatever works for you. I would not recommend using a dremel. It's too hard to control!

I use the slowly chop at it with a small pair of snap=on wire cutters
note i have scraped one up by this method great care is suggested :D
4 diodes harvested this way, 4 more waiting in closet ...hidden from wife lol ;D
