It depends on where you connect the laser diode?!? A little bit more detail would be in order.

Depending on what the current of the driver is set at when you recieve it, I would think the diode wouldn't get enough energy to run, or too much energy and break. I don't know A LOT about lasers, but I would expect this to happen.

well whatever driver you have has a minimum and maximum current......and it's going to somewhere inbetween those number.... so it will either be not enough, or too much and kill it.....or who knows it may be perfect.

if i connect it to a 9 volt battery.
i ask this beacause i saw dorcy laser with the diode connected on the dorcy's driver and it works good.

No matter what battery you use the mA output on the driver will stay the same unless the battery is dead or your battery(s) is giving to much power, resulting in it not turning on at all.

You need to test the mA on the driver or have it preset for you by the seller.

I believe Drlava, the seller of Flexdrives, offers this service for an additional 3 dollars.

If you are going to set the current on a driver, you will need a test load.

I'm not going to explain the whole process because it can be found here on the forum.

Simply connect the test load to the driver where you would normally place the diode, connect your DMM ( Digital Multi Meter) to the resistor on the test load, set the DMM to mV, and turn the Potentiometer, or Pot, (the thing that looks like a screw) until you have your desired current.

Note*: 1 mV = 1 mA

Congratulations, you just learn one of the biggest things in the laser hobby.

yes... "works good" for about 5 min. The Dorcy Does have a stock driver, but you still MUST limit the current that you send to the diode! A Simple resistor between the LD and the stock driver works well, just pick your resistor based on your desired current through the LD. Really, there are about 5,000 threads about this, have you tried using the search function? It works quite well!

can anyone can tell me step by step how to set the current please?[/QUI just explained to you the very procces of exactly how to do it.But yes i will, here is how: ( click it ) Laser Drivers

Scroll down the page a little if you want to go directly to how to set the mA, but i suggest that you read the whole page,it will do you well!

Srry! i typed in the quote!

Anyways, here is a great tutorial on how to do this: Laser Drivers

I suggest you read the whole thing, but if you just want to know how to set the current on a driver, scroll down a little.

thank you for the help.

You are very welcome.I remember my first days here, and i had questions just like this.
Remember, always Use the search button before you post anything. Also, try to edit your threads to make one reflect all of your questions.Just my 2 cents.:)

Momo sorry if I am coming off as rude, and I don't mean to be at all, but you asked "questions just like this" less than a week ago, and now are just passing the answers off as if you knew them for ages.

Actually, you're right.Still, I Did ask questions like this when i started here, and I have learned enough about lasers so I shared my knowledge.

BTW connor, what do you plan on doing for your next build?

My friend has gotten increasingly more interested in laser pointers, and he wanted to build one. I think I am going to do something similar to the KipKay hack; A Sony 16x DVD Burner Laser Diode in a Mini MagLite, but with a driver. I will be building it, but it won't be me purchasing the parts or keeping the laser.
Other than that I think it's going to be a while before I purchase or build another one.
