Need some help with pen laser repair!

I have a 35mw Viper Series Dragon Laser. It has been subjected to heavy usage during public astronomy programs.

Through a series of events, the laser pointer fell apart…literally. It came apart into 4 components:

1) The main body, with the batteries
2) The diode/lens unit
3) The rubber button
4) The circuit board that controls it all

I managed to get the button and circuit board back together. However, in the process of trying to figure out how to reconnect the diode/lens unit, a small gold wire snapped off. It looks like now that this was supposed to connect the diode/lens unit with the circuit board.

Is the laser still salvageable? Or is it shot? Bummer if it is! It was really good and really powerful….

Sounds like you broke off one of the diode's pins, most likely it will be more work than it's worth. How long have you had it? You may be best trying to send it back.

images are a bit fuzzy, can you get a clear picture of the diode (where the pin fell off)?

welcome to the forum BTW

Your laser is destroyed.
Unfortunately, the gold pin is supposed to be soldered to the negative flap lead on the b-mount diode. If it has been pulled out the diode is ruined.

Edit: that's not a b-mount, but it's still dead.

See attached for Diode Wire close up - if this is unfixable all I have to say is:

:banghead:

I broke the wire as I was trying to fix it...

It's probably not worth the trouble. The leads of the diode broke off, and the very small surface left is too small to solder something on (unless you're skilled in smd soldering, then you may have a chance). It looks like a 5.6mm can diode in there. Try getting the pump diode out. If it's irrepairible (probably) then you can get a new pump diode. Then you'd have to fix the laser so that it doesn't fall apart. If you like repairing things you can try it, otherwise it's not worth the trouble.
