Hey guys,

So I just finished making my first laser. It's a bluray in a dorcy, 145mA driver.

Now I have a question... Can I use the same host and build for a red laser? I would be using a LG 22x DVD burner diode. If I can do this, what is acceptable current for it? I've heard 300-400mA is good?

If you're interested in pics of my laser, either go to my photobucket (shammikaze), or see my post in the violet lasers forum.

Thanks,
-Shammi

Stick with using the flexdrive and I think you'll be alright. Is this the LOC diode you are considering to use?

If you are using the Flex-Drive you will be able to build a "Red" in the same way you built your BluRay, just a different current setting on the driver, (and a different "pin-out" on the diodes).
Most are setting the "long-Die-open-Can" diodes, such as the one from a 22x-DVD drive at around 400mA for an acceptable life/power. You can set it higher but for not much gain in power, just a decrease in life from your diode.
