Red face Does anyone have any info on the laser in this? xbox 360 HOP-141X

So I have this old xbox 360 and all the parts to make my first handheld, however, I don't see anyone else using the diode from the xbox drive with model number VAD6038. I believe the sled assembly is a HOP-141X.

I was wondering if anyone know what kind of diode is in it exactly and if its worth making a handheld out of it.

Does anyone have any info on the laser in this?

No need to bold the words. We may play with lasers but we can see just fine.

X360 and PS3 laser diodes aren't worth harvesting, as far as I can remember that period. They are weak reader diodes, and will go up to maybe 15mW if you are very lucky, and one of those two comes in a very weird combo package (5-pin diode, with all three lasers incorporated into that one).

Look up eBay for PHR-803T sled, that one has 100mW Bluray diode, worth building into a handheld.

Thanks Eudaimonium.
I found a good 405nm 150mW on ebay (here). I have also ordered the custom driver parts from styropyro's $3 driver tutorial video. I read that the diode should have a long life at 130mA and what I have should do 125mA and make the diode about 120mW.

I hope I made a good decision. It should be fun!

Sure, 405nm diodes are awesome to use, it's the unnatural color of the light that makes it so "unreal".

Make sure to triple-check your driver setup BEFORE you hook up your diode to anything. Use a test load, or dummy load, verify the driver's output, and only then solder on the diode.

Never use alligator clips for connections after the driver, that usually results in dead diode. Driver-Diode connection must be permanent.

Awesome. I have a decent multimeter that I will use to test everything and it will all be soldered. Can't wait. Thanks for the help. If anything goes wrong, I will probably post it on this thread.
