im trying to make my own laser show... i have a few motors and i got the potentiometers too... when i hook up the batteries with the motor n the potentiometer nothing happens when i turn the potentiometer... do i have to have special motors that can have their speed adjusted? do i need any other parts? and will a dvd burner motor work?...

im using this kind of potentiometer http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...&cp=2032058.2032230.2032275&parentPage=family ... its about 2 inches tall n the bottom is about a inch across... is it too big?... it says somethin about .250 watt

any ideas for other potentiometers?

thanks for reading....

Have you connected it correctly?
In simplest terms, Black wire goes from battery straight to a terminal on the motor.
Red wire goes from battery to the middle pin of the pot, another wire goes from either of the other pins of the pot to the other terminal of the motor....

whats motors are you using?
i wouldnt think the motors are the problem. usually smaller motors will spin either slow or fast depending on the power put into them.

jayrob said a 100 ohm pot worked great for him maybe try that?
