i know a few people sell DIY DAC kits, you order the kit and solder it yourself - but i personally don't have the low level logic knowledge to make one myself from scratch, let alone the pc programming needed to interface it to a lasershow program

NORMS DAC! and lambo lpf isn't that big on scanners i would recommend photon lexicon for that field

the FB3 from pangolin is quite good at $500 with lowend software

a DAC is the main controller in a Scanner that takes a ILDA/USB/DMX ( different cable/connection types) and Processes / splits the signals to the scanners and controls the lasers brightness levels

NORMS DAC!
I couldn't agree more, he sells the kits on ebay ( cannot find any at the moment). Mine worked like a charm at the first try after building it. It is by far the cheapest way to go. You would need to be at a pretty advanced level of electronics and programming to DIY.

I think that is the full kit price, including galvo's.... the old DAC on its own was $23 + P & P... he never seems to overprice anything so it may be worth waiting for his USB one...

I am already registered on that site but what you just said is the exact reason I don't use it... I have no idea what people are talking about there.
