Diode removal

I bought a 5mW red module and I was planning on putting a 200mW diode inside it. The problem is that I am unable to remove the 5mW diode from the housing. It seems to be stuck. I used the back of a drill bit and tried to push it out but it ended up breaking the diode.

You said you broke the diode but did you get it out of the module?

I've killed a couple diodes. When that happens I just put the module in a vise and use a nail and hammer to knock it out.

flaminpyro sells a professional made removal tool that won't damage your diode:

He also sells many other very useful tools

There are many "home brew" options that other LPF members have come up with too.

Personally I've used an old radio antenna. One of the pieces is just the right diameter to push it out safely.

Hope this helps, good luck!!

They're 5mW red diodes; who cares if they break? What are you even going to do with it if you pop it out intact? Just put a rod in the front, grab the housing with some pliers, and press down on a hard surface. It should pop the diode right out though it'll be damaged.
