Diode dead weird flexdrive thing.

I was working on my phr build today and i was using a kryton groove (kind of overkill). The tail switch didn't work but I didn't know that yet. I took everything out and tested it. I tested the circuit i set up and it powered the diode. Then I tested the tail switch and discovered the problem. Anyway, I was playing around 5 minutes later and this time the diode wouldn't light up. I checked voltages and currents and the flexdrive is giving out 1 amp even thought it is on the 66-100 setting. Any ideas?

Is it disconnected (bad solder joint, etc.)? The current will continue to ramp if there is no load.

Which means something else strange is going on - the flexdrive would do nothing if it was toasted.

I was hoping by looking at the pictures that there might have been some solder jumpers wrong or something but it looks like default setting like you said.

When you check the voltages and currents did you use a test load? If so, did you try adjusting the pot?

Obviously if 1A went to the PHR, it is most likely dead but just trying to figure what is going on with the flexdrive. :thinking:

The solder joint to the positive pin looks cold.

How are you measuring the current?

What do you mean cold? Also it looks like a lot more wire in the pics.

A "cold" solder is one in which there was not sufficient heat to cause the solder to "flow" smoothly. This can result in momentary (or permanent) breaks in the joint.

I asked about the wire, because I don't know of anyone that uses wire as more than a "jumper" in a Kryton build. Here is a shot of an older one I did. Notice how old the flexdrive is ;) Some old timers might even recognize the Kryton Smooth head :)

I don't even use that much wire anymore. The diode pins are soldered directly to the driver now. There is NO wire in the build

You still have not said how your measured the current

Ill be on after the weekend because I'm going to my cabin. I measured it with a digital multi meter. and I built it after I saw that you were supposed to attach the flex drive right on to the head.

With the multi-meter attached where? How was it powered? What was attached to the driver at the time you measured it?
