Sorry for the delayed response. The 9V battery in my DMM died and I haven't made it to the store
to get a new one. I will post the breakdown voltage as soon as it get a new battery.

I hate when that happens. I have a few Fluke multimeters that need new batteries too.

meh just rials me when people point it out prolly a thing from my asshat for a english teacher years ago before they understood dyslexia
you should see my english grade :P or my handwriting 0.0 between the dyslexia, and dyspraxia,

if a spider had ink on its legs when it had a epileptic fit across a sheet of paper, that would be more legible english than my handwriting is

Woohoo!!! A friend just happened to have a DVD Burner that stopped working which he gave me.
Hopefully not a problem with the diode. 8-) Anyway, it is a LiteOn LH-18A1P 18x Burner. If the diode
is infact good how much current should I provide an 18x diode? I don't want to push it too hard because
I would like it to last. I still don't have my DMM back up and runnin but should tomorrow hopefully. Any advice
would be much appreciated.

Good luck getting it out of the heatsink :P liteon drives are the worst. they have short open can diodes. don't know much more about them :-/ lol

I finally got my DMM going. Looks like the breakdown voltage on my blown diode is 1.525 volts.
Dont know if it matters or not but the diode was still connected to my circuit when I took the reading.

Okay thanks.. Guess that tells me that you can't determine if aLD is good or bad using the diode mode but still can tell which pin is positive.
Thanks

Hmmm, don't know if this info is usefull or not Ryo but I measured the breakdown on my
new 18x open-can LD. It measured 1.25V or thereabouts. Interesting thing is the LED
in the LD didn't even light up on the open-can like it did on my old diode while testing it.
The new one must require a bit more power to light up than the DMM can provide.

Hey, HumanSymphony. It was a bit tricky but with much care and patience I managed
to successfully harvest the diode from my LiteOn drive. It was indead an open-can like
you said. It was particularly difficult to get the diode out of the heatsink. I ended up having
to cut the heatsink into little pieces to get the diode out. I now have the diode installed in my
Sure module and it is working great.
