i was just about to take pics of my dealextreme 200mw but when i press the button to turn it on it went real bright (as normal) and dimmed down till there was no dot. it continuously does this every time i turn it on
iv had it for a few months no with no problems

i haven't tried new batteries yet but i just tested these and there good
any ideas what might be the problem. has this happened to anyone else?

When you say 'tested' what do you mean? What type of cells are they? What was the unloaded voltage? What was the voltage under load? And why not try new cells? It seems like the most simple solution.

As soon as alkaline cells reach 1.5V they are dead as far as that high a load is concerned. Under load they're probably only holding 1.1V or so. That's why I don't like alkaline primary cells.
