Default Dead Battery or Dead Laser?

Hey everyone,

Recently ordered laserbtb's 445nm 750mW. I'm unable to take pictures at the time, but I can give my very best description of what is going on, as well as using laserbtb's advert picture for reference

http://laserbtb.com/UploadFiles/201203122337117349.jpg

This is a picture of the laser. The LED indicator right in front of the button turns red when the laser is emitting a beam. There is a shutter on the front, and a key switch. On the key switch is an arrow, when it is pointing forward you can turn it on, when it is pointing to the side you cannot turn it on.

That being said... I got my batteries in the mail yesterday (2x 16340). Charged them both up with my nitecore i4, once the LED indicators were solid I removed the batteries. I did a voltage test on the batteries, battery 1 was rated at 4.15 volts~, battery 2 was rated at.... 3.2 volts~. I stuck battery 2 back on the charger and the LEDs indicated it was fully charged. I figured what the heck, lets give the laser a try. It's not over-voltage, so shouldn't have an issue.

I put the batteries in the laser and it worked just fine. Nice strong and steady beam, good at burning, able to see it in a well lit room. I took the batteries out and put the laser back in its case to wait till nighttime. Once it was dark enough I took out my laser, popped the batteries back in, turned off all the safety features, and turned it on. The laser didn't turn on. The LED indicator flashed red when I pushed the button, then faded out. I tried again, and the same thing happened - the indicator turned red, then faded out.

I decided to remove the batteries and give them a voltage test again. Battery 1 tested at 4.1 volts, battery 2 tested at 2.8 volts =/ This hints at one of the batteries being defective (go figure, cost me like 4 bucks shipped for both of them combined), but I came on here for confirmation. I shook the seemingly defective one for shits and giggles, and now it tests at 3.4v. Popped them in the laser again and tested it out and the laser worked fine for a little while, though now, the next day, I cannot get it to work at all. I don't have any 16340 spare batteries, got some coming in the mail though. I ordered a lot of extras since I hear high power blues running on 16340s drain really fast.

Any thoughts? Is it possible something is wrong on the end of the laser? Or do the symptoms point towards the battery?

Thanks for reading if you got this far,
Matt

Edit: If I've left anything out, it is an accident- ask for more information if I did!
