HEy all, I have a Cyonics Uniphase Argon that is not working properly. I have POURED over Sam's Laser FAQ's, and am in communications with Sam regarding this laser as well ! It was working perfectly fine until it was recently shipped to me :( It was not packed too well, and I am kinda stuck with the resultant non working Argon, and my little heart has been crushed :(

It fires - emits a tiny amount of approx 405nm light out of the aperture - the HR mirror is "fine" despite a small scuff on it - the head is lasing to a certain degree - both rings glow on the tube, and the before mentioned emissions. It is reading 10Amps at the test juncture of pins 26&27 on the jumpered test area on the P/S - but will not fire properly. Does ANYONE know of a place where I could send this laser (I REALLY want it fixed !) to get it looked at and repaired ? Sam is a huge help, but I don't know if he has the time to look at it - I would pay shipping both ways (with insurance, etc) and of course pay you for your time (provided it is semi-reasonable). PLEASE let me know if you know anyplace that is capable of repairing this exquisite laser !

If the tube is sustaining discharge then you just have a mirror alignment issue, if the tube isn't igniting then it may be overpressure from non use or underpressure from being used too much. (tube should flash and lase with each igniter pulse) if it doesn't make any ticking sounds at all when trying to start then your igniter may be dead :-/

If that puppy is drawing 10 amps off the power line, it is light up inside.  Both of mine draw about that much power so I don't think gas is the problem.  As was said, probably a mirror moved off place.  Can you adjust which line you get or is it all at once?  Some had a moveable prisim or grating to select the output line as I recall.
Chris at Hurrersciences may also be of some help.

Thanks, Mike - Chris seems to appear and dissapear ! He'll answer a ton of emails at once, then silence for weeks or more. We were in teh middle of a HUGE deal, and he dropped off the planet for 6 months  Anywho - I am wrapping this puppy up in enough bubble wrap to fit into a fridge box, and sending it off to Sam tomorrow :) I am SO HYPER ! I cannot believe that he is so nice like that !!! :)

I hope Sam can be of assistance. Argons are beautiful indeed.

The "ML" in the part number is for multiline - so all lines at once.

You betcha ! THAT is why I was so crushed when it wouldn't work out of the box - it will be safely on it's way to Sam shortly today - along with an assortment of diffraction gratings, Stonetek Diodes, and assorted other goodies for him as my futile effort of finding a way to thank him for taking the time to look at this for me - I have Sam in VERY high regards, for all he has done for the community, the knowledge he has shared, and the humor in his FAQ's makes them a pleasure to read !

SenKat --
Keep us updated on this fine laser. Mine are only single line 488's.
488 nM is still nice

you bet I will, Mike - I am trying to find an adequate shipping carton, and trying to get the wife or kid to lift it into the box - pityful that I cannot lift anything over 10lbs at present, without screaming REALLY loud :( (pity party, anyone ? ) TAKE CARE OF YOUR BACK !!

I hope it can go out this week - Sam is GREAT to even take the time to look at this for me !
