Custom host: who can I contact?

I was toying around with the idea of making my own Sonic Screwdriver prop (with a laser diode in the bottom) and, to do it right, I'd need to get a length of custom-machined aluminum tubing.

Unfortunately, I don't have a metal lathe, nor do I know anyone who does.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to make a very exacting, detailed tube for a price that won't break the bank? (I'd provide detailed measurements, photos & diagrams, of course)

Try Jayrob - he does incredible work, and although he's probably busy with all of his mods, hosts, etc it would be worth the wait to have him do the work (providing he would) ...

Very true. I see his work everywhere, and his craftsmanship is impeccable.

Hopefully he's a Dr. Who fan and will be willing to squeeze my project into his schedule...

Thanks for the recommendation!

You guys are being too generous with your compliments. But thanks! :)

Actually, all of my mods are pretty basic when it comes to machine work. The measurements are precise yes, but the work is basic. That's because I am not a machinist, just a hobbyist.

In other words, I can make your custom part, as long as there is not any threading involved. Taps for set screws are one thing, but threading on the end of a barrel O.D. or I.D. is a completely different thing. And I am not skilled in this area...

Can you sense when you're being spoken of on the forum? (distrubance in the Force, perhaps?)

I've been mulling over the idea for a couple of days, now, and I figure I can get it done without threading by having the two modules (LED/sound & laser) anchored in the host with screws. I can easily drill a hole in the host for a small machine screw to pass through into a wee nut inset (and soldered or epoxied into) the laser's heatsink. The LED module can be achored just as easily.

And, if I cut slots instead of holes, I can make one or both modules telescope! (functionally useless, but it'd look neat) :D

As for activation, I can probably drill holes to hold buttons over where the pressure switches would be, but that complicates the telescoping. I'll figure it out eventually.

If I e-mail you the specifics (measurements, picture, et cetera) would you be able to give me a quote?

I can certainly take a look at it and see if I think I can make it for you! Sending PM...
