Damn, that's a beauty.

How'd you get the coin idea? I've never seen that before...friggin' genius. So now that the coin contacts the host you basically turned the whole thing into the heatsink?

Also, since lasers perform poorer as they heat up would chilling the entire thing in the freezer make it laze better? The only thing I'd be concerned about would be condensation...but if you water-proof it with some O-rings that shouldn't be a problem, right?

I would be afraid of condensation on the inside of the diode window where it could not be cleaned off. I think it is supposed to have some kind of gas inside the diode can but cant remember what.

Ah yes, I forgot about that...I think I'll keep my lasers out of the icebox

I've got 50 more on the way. Prob be available in 1-2 weeks. I'm going to do another run of the guidesman hosts too. Probably around 20 of them.

Re: Compact 1.6W Hotlights 18500 Host W/Driver Heatsink Mod

Thanks for the links to the thermal adhesive.

Ive allways wondered what to use....spose a quick google of "thermal adhesive" would have helped :) .

@ DTR no problems running @1.5A ?

EDIT

Forgot to ask, has anyone had any problems the the electrical conductivity of the thermal adhesive? i notice on the website it's slightly capacitive, and should be "kept away" from close running tracks, indicating it may be conductive?

I know I'm not DTR but my coin mod has shown no problems! In fact I've never had a burning laser last as long as it has. It's beyond amazing

Ok youve sold me :)

I'll either use your idea on my next build, or dremel out a bit of the host and mount it there.

When I had the first quarter in my hands It got so scolding hot within a few seconds from the drill I let it go and it went flying. Glad I had 50 cents hahaha

These hosts are pretty nice, I'm surprised you were able to push so much power into it without it heating up too much.

These hosts are also for sale at radiant electronics if anyone wants one :) Moh just had a pile of them and wanted to get rid of em fast so I grabbed a couple to sell over time.
