Cheap heatsink idea

Ok, this may be a stupid idea, but it just came to my mind when I was making food. Is it possible to wrap aluminium foil many times around a module to make a simple heatsink?

I'm pretty sure it will KEEP heat in and if it does work it's gonna be a very ugly, weak heatsink.

It doesnt work - you cant roll aluminium foil thight enough to prevent air gaps between the layers.

I have no idea at all why it matter's I just like solid looking heatsinks I guess ;).

the air gaps left will retain enough heat to defeat the purpose of having the aluminum foil there in the first place. Think more like how wood paste is made... saw dust + wood glue...

what works well as a filler for gaps, is metal (aluminum) shavings + heat paste...

How large of bolt?
Being as the Aixis module is 12mm, you would need a bolt at least 3/4" or so, in diameter.
Do you have way to drill it out properly? IE: Drill Press, you will never get the module in, anywhere close to straight without a drill press.
You would be better off using a large NUT
The hole in the middle needs to be smaller then 11mm (counting the threads) This give you 1mm to drill out.
Be aware that steel is a fairly poor conductor of heat. The nut needs to be Aluminum.
,and the module has to fit very tight. (press fit, .001 under)
If you can push it in with your hands or a piece of wood, it's not tight enough!

well i dont have a drill press :( i need a heat sink! cheap cheaper than 10$ because my project goal is for a 6x blu-ray laser under 70$ anything under 70$ sooo any idea's for a heat sink? without a drill press? im @ 60$ btw

If you haven't bought the parts yet, you could spend the extra $7 and get one of these.

Thx but no thx i have a blu-ray diode of 405nm and it wont work properly with a housing made for a 635nm red laser. It wouldn't wrk at all. there is one for 32.00$ shipping and exchange included for blu-ray but that is kinda expensive.

But thx for your time spent looking!

This housing will work with 405nm. Just unscrew the lens assy. and replace with a 405-G-1 lens. (or Aixis lens, if using a low powered PHR)

actually how long would a diode take to come from china do you think?
The fastest I've received anything from China is 20 days, the longest 42 days.
Short answer: A long time!

the axiz lens will degrade because i am using a SF-AW210 Blu Ray Laser Diode. I will go like 200mw.
