New guy here, Just a few questions

Okay, well, I took the diode out of an old CD player, what should I do first?

How should I first approach it?

Any tutorials I could use?

And how strong is this little diode?

Thanks in advance.

Old CD player = IR= useless as it is low powered. Sorry man. :(
Its not all bad though as you can practice by extracting it so you learn something. :)

What would be an easy/cheap first laser build?

And how strong are the diodes in printers/scanners

if you wanna make a laser thats visible you want blu-ray or DVD, all CD burners and readers use IR, the blu-ray stuff it a violet tint idk how to describe it, and DVD is red, burners are powerful and are good for burning stuff (obviously, lol) and readers aren't powerful enough to burn but are good for a first DIY

false, a CD burner will work. its just in infrared so all you will see is, at most, a dim red light. but it's still extremely powerful and you can severely damage your vision if you dont have the proper safety equipment like goggles.

in other words... DO NOT WANT... lol, ive been reading up on all that, and CD = bad, cuz infra red = blind with out goggles. DVD = GOOD, cuz its a diode that emit in the visible light spectrum, and likely to not emit any IR, none the less possible to still blind but not as easily.

thats true, unless you purposefully want an IR laser, and some people do. most people recommend a first build to be a DVD reader and not a burner, and try the burner once you have the proper experience, and have learned how everything works.
