I'm new at this so pretty much a noob, I ripped apart an old dvd player and founder a single diode in it, if someone could tell me what type of diode is it (whether it would be infra red or normal or something) and would it be any use in creating a laser burner, that'd be great.

Thanks

A did player has an infrared diode that is close to invisible. Strongly recommend not using it. Because it's invisible, and not very strong, you'd be wasting your time. Sorry man.

That is like no diode I've ever seen. You take it out of something from the 80's?

It's a flat pack, not a TO-56, Mostly useless for a pointer build, BUT,,, DVD players usually have Red's (CD players/writers usually have I.R.'s)
