Can I make 2 contacts on my test load?

i am using a diy testload with three wires for the DMM. one "ground" one for the red after 4 diodes and one for the blue after all 6 diodes. works fine so far, you have to pay good attention where you measure the current to not blow your LD... :)

On your drawing...
If you jumper the Top Switch (and remove it) and only use the Bottom Switch...

The Test load would be set up for Blu-Ray LDs with the Switch in the Open position
and the Test Load would be set up for Red LDs with the Switch in the Closed position.. ;)

No... do it exactly opposite (you removed the wrong switch and jumped the wrong contacts)
if you want the switch to function as I have posted... :cool:

The way you have it now... the switch will do absolutely nothing in either position... :eek:

BTW... the 2 contacts that you jump... must touch each other...

Yeah, technically, you can just leave the "BLU" pads soldered and connect/disconnect the "RED" pads to switch between the voltages, but I put both on there to make it more easily understandable... otherwise I'm sure I'd get confusion over how to set the higher "BLU" voltage.

Yeah... now you got it...
The two pads (BLU) where the switch was before...
should be jumped or have a wire between them... (they should touch each other) ;)

@rkcstr... your Test Load is very versatile and easy to use... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  Maybe I'm missing something..
              but is the "RED" tap on the Diodes only after 3 diodes...(from what I can see on the
              photo)... I thought the Red LDs needed 4 diodes in series... :-? I may be going blind.. ;D

Yes, on mine it is 3 diodes for RED and 6 for BLU. i use a diode that has higher Vf than most diodes, being close to 1V at the currents typical for red diodes and a little lower at lower currents, like for the blu-ray diodes. So, the output voltage come out to slightly over 3V for the RED and somewhere around 5V for the BLU range, varying with the actual current running through them, of course.
