Default Building a Red Laser Mini-Mag w/ Rkcstr driver

Alright.

I've watched all the Kip-Kay vids and I have agreed that a driver is the best bet to prolong the life of my diode.

I really wasn't interested in tearing the flashlight apart, but rather, modifying it just as it is, like putting the wires directly into the small holes instead of tearing it all apart.

However, I want to know what exactly the polarity is of these 2 holes, and also, has anyone stuck the new rkcstr driver inside the Aixiz module and is this even possible?

I'm a noob, I know. I searched, and nothing really came up for putting drivers of this type in the aixiz module, or about polarity of the 2 holes. I know wiring it in reverse would mess it up.

Default Re: Building a Red Laser Mini-Mag w/ Rkcstr driver

technically it does fit. but real world use doesn't let me. no room to run wires and such. but the mini mag should have enough room in it for everything. but note the mini mag only takes 2 AA batteries that gives 3 volts. you need more for the rkcstr driver. do some searching on the forums. i forgot the size and name but there are batteries that are the same size as AA but each batt gives like 3.6v which is what you need. i thing the battery is called 18650 but i'm not sure. if i find it first i will repost the correct info. if yo wanna stay with regular AA batteries go with the flexdrive.

the battery number/style i gave is good. are you building a red or a blu-ray? search for "diode pin out" that will tell you where to solder your leads.

Default Re: Building a Red Laser Mini-Mag w/ Rkcstr driver

Good deal, thank you for that information. In the meantime.....I've found some tutorials on how to do it without involving pins in the picture. One more question I have is if I install the terralux push-button, will I need to worry about screwing the head down and etc etc etc? Or will I just be able to leave it go and push the button when I want it on?

Also, are these batteries able to be charged in a conventional charger?(Energizer) or do I absolutely need the DSD charger...

For the record, I'm building a ~150mW red laser. Got all my parts and such from stonetek and rkcstar. The pins I were referring to were the pinholes on the flashlight, but I have realized where the ground pin is and etc. after popping the small "DO NOT REMOVE" plastic tab off. I bought the Aixiz laser module already assembled with a high-powered dvd burner laser installed, so no worries about which pin is which.

I guess there are a lot of kits and such for building this type of laser. Did you buy a kit, or did you find your own spacers to do it? I do have the Aixiz laser housing on its way....I'm wondering if it will fit in this flashlight properly. That could be used as a spacer as well though, correct?

Thanks
Thanks.

i've made a couple. but never the mini mag. kip kay is really looked down upon here. the best way i can say to build it is:
since all your stuff is pre wired, just find a way to use the case of the mini as the ground and wire your positive into the push button. but the thing about a mini mag is, is that there isnt much room inside. and since i have not built one, i advise you to be very creative. also always make sure to groud yourself.
if you need more help you can pm or emailing me might get you a faster response.

Default Re: Building a Red Laser Mini-Mag w/ Rkcstr driver

Ive use the 2AA minimag as a host before and simply sticking two wires in the holes doesn't give all that great a connection.

-What i did was remove the head completely(the part you normally twist to turn on and focus) by unscrewing it till it comes off.
-You should then be faced with a small peice of plastic with the two pins and a warning that says "don't remove." Go ahead and remove it
-Find a small screw driver and pry it off, but be carefull and note that the other half with fallout the battery barrel so its best to do this over your bed or desk.
-The peice that fell out the back is what you want now and you should see that one socket is gounded to the case by a flange at the top and the other is insulated to the battery terminal.
-Remove these two sockets and solder 2" leads to them and take note of which color wire you have connected to the grounded socket and to the battery insulated socket.
-Now its just a matter or putting it all back together. Push the socket back into their retainer(doesnt matter which socket goes in which side, they're the same) Make sure the insulated tab is bent back over so it can contact the battery's terminal.
-Put these peice back in the battery barrel(wires first of course) followed by two AA batts and the tail cap, this will keep the plactic bit with the wires at the top so you can press on the tab that was removed in the beginning(the one with the "don't remove" label)

There you have it. It may sound allitle complecated at first but its not all that much being done. Really all you are doing is dismanteling the flashlight so that you can solder wires to the two sockets and get a firm connection rather than just push two wires into the sockets.

I usually don't post such a long response but hey, first time for everything

Default Re: Building a Red Laser Mini-Mag w/ Rkcstr driver

Mini Mag's have very little room in the head. Especially if you want a heatsink for your module...

I have a Mini Mag kit that uses room inside the barrel for the driver, and a single 14650 battery for a FlexDrive build with a heatsink.

This is a great little build and you can use my thread as a tutorial for DIY:

At the very least, it will give you some ideas for your build...

I figured it was time to modify a decent build for the Mini Mag. I have a Mini Mag Green kit as well...

It's pretty nice, but not as good for heatsinking as my DIY Green kit.
