Hi everybody. Can you tell me if as any chance you can build some quick galvos at home.Is a lot of hassle to do it.I know you must buy magnets, ball bearings and spindles, make a coils, position sensors.
I found some faulty dmx scanners at ebay here link.

I am thinking if i could use galvos and maybe fix and use electronics from them as well.
Mojo Geni Spinmaster 1 Disco Karaoke Light. DMX on eBay (end time 11-Feb-10 20:30:40 GMT)

Constella Astra Scans DMX Disco Lights (Pair) FAULTY on eBay (end time 23-Jan-10 21:29:55 GMT)

I found green lasers 50mW for about 16 British Pounds and 100mW for 19Pounds.
Is it good price for them?

Building galvos yourself can be done, but it's a challenging prospect. You're best bet is to contact a supplier like www.spacelas.com and pick up an inexpensive 20k set. The cheapest set spacelas sells retail for $88US plus shipping.

Regarding lasers, you'll need to use lab-style lasers with modulation capability. Modulation is the ability to rapidly turn the laser on and off. This allows for the cleanest imagery. The cheapest source I know of currently for TEC-stabilized laser show modules is Green Laser 100MW 532nm Diode DPSS Module + Power TTL - eBay (item 230420680253 end time Feb-04-10 15:45:31 PST) The seller has very good feedback, but I don't know how the lasers are. They're worth a shot at that price IMO..

I believe it's been done with stepper motors.

They can be salvaged out of many things for free.

I have seen cheap galvos on ebey, never bought them.

As for using pointers or pens, they are not designed for continuous use, they will overheat in mere minutes.
