Broken diode pins on an 8x

I may be the only member that has messed up a total of 3 8x diodes lol. I have lost 2 due to the window being knocked loose and now I fear I may have lost another.

I was uninstalling my 8x diode from a failed 7 color build and both of the diode pins broke off. Does any one have a method for getting some new pins installed or any method that allows me to use this diode again and not trash it.

Put a solder blob over the pin stub, shorting it to the case, then use the extra case pin as a replacement. Only works if your host is case-neutral or the pin you broke off happens to be the negative pin... otherwise you'll have to reverse your driver and batteries.

No big deal, with blurays this isn't much of an issue since they're case neutral.

Oh wait... PinS... Plural... Eep. Oh boy. You're in for some fun. You're going to need to solder at least one of the pins to a wire, then seal it in place with some glue so you don't break it off... Then use the above advice for the second pin.

You will need a laser welding job to reattach at least one of the pins, then you can short the other to the case as mentioned above. Some jewelers have a laser welding set up. I do not think there is another good option, if you can not find someone with the equipment, I can have a partner with a laser welder try it. -Glenn

I don't have a camera capable of a good close up photo sorry. Glenn, PM me, I would like to send this diode to you and have you try to fix it. I don't know any one with a laser welder.
