Alright, so i'm on my 4th PHR and dont know what i'm doing wrong. I have it running off a lm317 driver, set at, and tested at 93mA. Each one died after about 3-5 minutes of use. The driver is fine, and i'm using it to run a red diodes with no problem. Is there anything I need to know about the PHR diodes that I may have missed that is different from a red diode? Anyway, the LPC I bought works great. Wish I would have known that the diodes had such a great price on Modwerx.

How are you testing the 93mA of current...
Is your LM317 Driver set up a a Voltage Driver or a Current Driver..
What are you using to power the LM317 Driver...

Any Pics of your setup???

The driver i'm using is the one from this site. Im reading it from a 1ohm resistor that is on the test load with the 6 diodes. And i'm using a 9v battery as the power supply. Could I just be really unlucky with the diodes?

When attaching the driver to the diode are you discharging the cap? are you soldering the diode pins your self? how long do you leave the soldering iron on the pins for? are any of the wires making contact .. (looks kinda dodgy around the diode pins..)? are all your connections soldered corectly and are making good connection?

can you take some close up pics of the diode pins and your driver setup? thanks -Adrian

Blu ray diodes have a different pin out than red ones. Maybe you hooked it up wrong.

Yup, I shorted the cap and all that. And I left the iron on a pin for maybe a second-second and a half. And I got the pins right too, it did work for a little bit. I'm just gunna guess that it was probably a bad connection that I made, and try to do better next time. Thanks for all the help! :D

But I think i'm just going to wait another 3-4 years when I get my own place off base then Ill start up this hobby then I guess. Hopefully the prices for some of those 6x will have gone down by then. ;D Wish I would have found how much fun this is more than a month and a half before I have to leave for baisc.

lol dont be discouraged.. i know it is hard when you start off.. how about buy a PHR already in a aixiz module.. it will already have the leads attached.. all you have to do is attach it to the driver! if you live in USA you can get them from Darklasers.com their around $15 shipped iirc. any way its up to you.. but it is always rewarding to see your home made laser work and preform as you wanted!

Oh, I know. Im not discouraged, just dont have the time to build one, and I would have to get rid of it next month anyway. My red LPC has been running good at 400mA! I think that was around 200mW, correct?
