Why did you take your laser apart? What do you mean by "Am I missing anything???"

Im a bit confused.

As for the green laser module assembly, it seems everything you need to put together a green laser is there.... but im still confused about your question.

my brrothers friend took it aapart because he was trying to make the dot pinhole sized...but i think he messed it up even more. I can't seem to get a green beem to put out

I see.

Well sorry to break the bad news to you... but your laser is pretty much toast. The reason your laser wont emit a green beam is because your brothers friend took it apart and it is no longer in alignment. Its not totally broken but its going to take some effort to fix.

I would suggest reading on how green DPSS lasers work.

Heres a guide that might help - http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/do-yourself-complete-green-dpss-o-like-crystals-42495.html

Your green laser's crystal assembly will need to be realligned with the diode and properly focused to get a TEM00 beam. You can try to fix it using the guide I posted but the difficulty level may be a little high for you.

As for that laser diode you see in the last photo. That is a high powered IR diode. DO NOT look into it! It looks like a dim red light but is very powerful!

I wish you luck fixing your laser.

Some people said that the crystal is missing...and other reasons....from the pictures, does it look like the parts are all in tact and not damaaged?

when realigning, what should i have assembled...that guide is awesome...but there's got to be a more simple one

Hi,

I have a cheap green laser pen which I am trying to do the same- make the dot pinhole sized, and I don't know how to do it.

I did not disassemble the laser and it's functioning but the dot is too big and I want to make it smaller.

Laser is not focusable, obviously.

Any ideas?

TIA

How do you take our huge Sun's rays (beam) and focus it
to burn things.....

Well...

I didn't mention that, but I don't want to use a magnifing glass or other external accessories.

The laser can burn with a magnifing glass, but I want it to be able to burn by itself.

In fact, I want to somehow focus this laser, although it's not focusable.

:thanks:

You have got to be kidding me!! Seriously he was trying to what!?! Only way to focus a laser like this, without using external optics, is to adjust the lens, if adjustable (it can be eventhough the host is not focisable. So how he could end up tearing it totally apart is beyond me. I would make your friend pay for a new laser since he obviously was totally clueless about the modification he tried to do screwing your laser as he "learned by doing". Of course if it was your own suggestion there is nothing much you can do other than slap yourself for not reading up on dpss before ruining your laser :)

Its probably ruined for good, but you might be lucky to be able to fix/realign it, however do not try to do so without safety googles. The laser is putting out much higher mW of InfraRed light than what it puts out in green, so you are at great risk of damaging your eyes if you dont use proper safety googles that block IR light.

Good luck with it.

EDIT: corrected spelling.

huh looking at the pics you could get some glue take your lens glue it back on to the err dpss assembly?
The crystal still looks glued in place you move around the whole assembly while the laser is on, and you need good eye protection, but rotate the whole peice till you get a green laser out of it, then glue it in place with epoxy, you may not get a tem00 but oh well.
Then you could just use the lens and not the DPSS sled or what ever they call the piece with the crystal and the mirrors and have a nifty IR pointer to use with night vision but be careful I don't know what kind of IR diode that is and its probably a muli-mode high power one. But don't throw it away. it can be fixed or could be useful like it is, you never know when a need for an IR laser pops up.

I tried lining up the glue marks, and didn't get anything...I don't have any goggles but i am stilll tinkering (with extreme caution) the main use i use my pointer for, besides looking at the starts...is i live in the country, and when i take my 2.3lb Chihuahua outside at 3am, there have been many of close calls with racoons, and other animals who try and attack him....having a nice powerful laser has defiantly f*cked up a few coons in my day.

ah well do you have a web cam, make sure that IR diode is working, if its not you are going to need to replace it though, you may just want to get a new laser and be more careful with it, the are fragile. A good web cam may filter IR but I got an old xbox web cam hooked to my PC and it picks up some pretty far IR and even some mild UV.

Also for coons I would just throw a rock. I don't think I would blind critters though :p but since they are a pest in your area I understand. A 17mm HMR rifle is what I would go with for coons.
