Hello,

I received my red laser diode 660nm 300-350mw CW Re Laser Diode DIY/Lab//TO18 5.6mm | eBay and module host Focusable Laser Module Host/5.6mm Laser Diode Case w/h Lens/DIY Laser Host/1pcs | eBay . I use this LM317 driver http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/diy-homemade-laser-diode-driver-26339.html with 1s LiPO=4,2V. Driver's pot is at 0 Ohms, resistor is 4,4 Ohms so the current is ~284mA. I assembled all parts, focused laser into small dot, but it doesn't light up a match. Even LD heatsink doesn't heat. What is the problem? Now I can't change the resistors, to regulate the current.

P.S. Seller said, that this diode working current is <400mA.

4,2v??? that is not enough for a lm317 driver you need at least 6v because the lm137 nedds 3v to work, try with 2 x lithium cells (7.4v)

Omg, I the current was safe, I added exactly 6V, LD shined brightly, but after few secs till focused the lens, laser died. LOL. 5th laser diode...

P.S. heatsink was hot.

man i suggest you that build a test load and buy a driver no make experiments with lm317 drivers (if you want a real lasers burner)

P.S. i kill 4 red laser diodes :)

mmmmm what about a ghostdrive??? is a great driver for red laser diodes

P.S. is a linear driver you need 2x lithium cells

So what driver is the best? I tested the current, it was 250mA.

I want to make a driver my self, because I have no money for buying them.

I want to build driver myself, not to buy. How to know, which dvd-rw has 5.6mm round laser diode, not square?

the newer models of dvd burners have this diodes, i open a lot of old dvd burners and almost 20% have a to-18 5.6mm driver

Now I want to buy LPC-826 diode, it is very powerful and cheap. Can I use LM317 driver? I need a big heatsink, right? If I put LD into housing, and that housing into heatsink, it will be OK?

yes it will be ok but you need to check your driver before you put yor LD and if you use a capacitor short their pins before conect the LD?

P.S: i suggest you that buy a driver
