Default 1st laser build, need a little help :)

Hello to all of you nice people. Recently I discovered the magic of lasers and now I want to build one. Since I am from Romania and shipping would take too much I want to start today a build. I found only one shop that sells here Aixiz housing, and some diodes and a single driver model. I intend of using a 100mW 532nm diode for my laser. Now, the driver they are selling has the following specs: positive regulator, built only on SMD components, output 30mA-700mA adjustable 5-16V input and it's build to fit 12x30 housing. So far so good, but...what output shall I set it for the 100mW diode? Also the manufacturer of the diode and driver are unknown. I can get them pretty cheap, 10$ for the driver, 10 for housing only, or 30 for the whole module - diode, housing, adjustable focus and acrylic lens (without the driver). I don't know the price of the diode, but I recon it is somewhere arround 10-15$. Is it possible for it to be 100mW at this price? 532nm green. I thought it's worth buying the whole module and the driver, and if the diode fails, i'll replace it later with something of more quality. But I really need me a laser light tonight )) Later I'll get a housing for batteries and switch but atm I wanna see it working

Also they have a 95.7mW blue/violet module at 7.4V (?) they said. The modules come with the driver and the housing at 30$. Is this too cheap for a bluray diode?

First there are no 532nm diodes. Second you have no idea of what you are talking about.

Take a few days and read the stickies in each sections, and the FAQ. Then use the search button to find out the info you are looking for. If you cant find it we will help. But you have a lot of reading to do before this happens.

Good luck.

Can't say for sure, but I think you can import a 532nm from Dx or Kaidomain to Romania... I would worry to much about the shipping time as much as the import fees.

Look into it cause there is no way you'll be able pull a 532nm build off without some serious skillz. Research here and see for yourself. good luck no less either way.

As I read on this webpage Dioda Laser HLDP-635-A501 - ADELAIDA - Componente electronice they sell for example 635 nm diodes and they emit red light. I figured that green lasers rated 532nm are made from 532 nm laser diodes. If it isn't so, then it was a honest mistake.

Now, I know that you need a laser diode, a driver, a heatsink and the Aixiz module, and then you need the casing for the module and battery, casing witch also has an ON/OFF button. So far I think I know what I'm talking about. Now, I can buy only the module (diode, casing and driver) or the the separate parts. right now I'm interested in the module, not the whole laser with casing. What I asked you was if the price on those parts are worth it. If you cannot answer me that, then please avoid this topic and read the advanced section. Right now I'm at the beginning. I red some posts, but I also have work to do, meet the girlfriend and family and do some other stuff in between. So, if there's someone on this forum that can shed some light on my questions I would pretty much appreciate, but seriously I'm tired every single time that I start something new and I go to a forum to ask questions...well...i'm tired of "advanced" users telling me to go read more. This is the helping part of the forum. Beginners who don't know much stuff come here to ask questions to advanced users. If they feel like helping they should answer the questions not act all superior. Try that and you might feel good for helping with noob stuff as well Don't forget that you were in my shoes as well. Now, is anybody out there that can tell me if those parts are worth? I'll rephrase, it's 100mW green light module built from unknown producer in a aixiz casing with unknown producer driver with the specs in first post, and it's focusable and it has acrylic lens all for 30 dollars. These are the specs on the webpage of the company selling the stuff. Thank you for your patience

I see your point... I will be as nice as I know how . There are people who lurk here many, many, many days/months before posting the very easy to find questions such as yours.

There is a 532nm diode that has just been produced with low power and quantity so you'll be paying out the nose if you could get one at all.

Second... just by reading the carefully written answers that have been posted
by scientist and guru's in this field on this forum from in the past you'll only be rewarding yourself by saving these to file anyhow.

And last from me, not to offend by any means, lasers are just to technical and dynamic to have a simple hey guy here is the answer for you. Nobody is being paid
to wait for a noOb question.

http://arstechnica.com/science/news/...splay-tech.ars well there you go just 2 minutes to find clip paste the article.

a 532nm laser is DPSS, and there are books to the ceiling just on that subject
(well not quite that tall). These members here will gladly answer your questions but not with that attitude, if you would have read around a little you would have known this.

Sorry, I said for you to look into buying a DX 50mW... there cheap and a good beginner laser. Just use common sense with it and goggles. Keep checking threads for your answers and use the search option. Have a good day. jander6442

PS I'm a student not a teacher.

Sorry but we dont spoon feed new users here. I actually lurked 3 weeks so I'd have a clue of what I was talking about before asking a question. So we are not, or have been in the same shoes. We only help people that help themselves here. Knowing the difference between a diode, and dpss laser is the first thing you should have known. If you took 20 minutes to read what I have recommended to you, you would know this. This is why the stickies, and FAQs were created, so every new member doesn't have to ask the same question over and over.

Green diode lasers a big breakthrough for laser-display tech well there you go just 2 minutes to find clip paste the article.

Thank you Jader. Well...then I guess it was about marketing and all with the 532 nm. That website has some blue pen lasers that they advertise at 532nm. Anyway I will go and see witch one has the best light, buy one and dig some more. I like building stuff that's why I wanted to do my first laser by myself but I guess I'll buy a normal one, disassemble it and check it out Meanwhile I'll document some more.
My previous post was aimed at Junkie, and I red some info in the stickies but it was too much advanced info for me, it just all got messed in my head. I also saw some previous posts of users saying the same thing. Like "could you simplify a bit please?". For now I wish for a handheld small laser to play with. If that gives me a knock out then I may try going to real lasers to play with. And then I'd need the advanced info. So, Junkie, maybe you had a bad day, maybe that's the way you are but I sure don't like you at first impression. So if you could stay out of my posts I would appreciate it. With all due respect, I don't wish any flames nor to attack you, but it really is a very big difference between your post and Jader's. Till how he helped me and you made me raise an eye-brow thinking "excuse me mr. laser-guru".

^ Thank you good sir.

I remember my first green beam... I still have it, a Radio Shack 5mW unit, I liked it sooo much I went and bought 2. The second one got ripped apart in the name of science. good times, good times.

Picky, picky, picky.... It helps get the idea across does it not?

Seems like a lot more than anyone else was willing to do for this guy.

When you go through the same questions for years, you'll know where we are coming from. People took a huge amount of time creating threads to answer common questions. 90% of the n00bs wont even try took at it. The other 10% are just here to buy a laser. We direct them to these areas, but for some reason many dont go. This gets frustrating after a while, and why some of us dont have patience for people who wont do any work for themselves. This has been going on long before I got here, so its nothing new.
