Default 10440 battery question

Is it safe to use 3 fully charged 10440 batteries with a rckstr driver? The driver only says it will handle 12v but it would be about 12.6v. I just dont wanna burn out my driver. Any feedback would be appreciated Thank you - Jay

You need to put a SI diode in series with the battery. You dont have to but the driver will create more heat with the extra juice.

ahh thx for the info. I think ill just stay with the 2 10440 and a regular 1.5v battery that seems to work just fine.

Mixing Li-Ions with different batteries is not a good idea, and could be dangerous.

Default Re: 10440 battery question

I'm running my Blu-ray with 3 x 10440's. Working great. I think when under load the batteries only put out about 11.8-11.9v for me (when fully charged). Even if it was over 12v it should still be ok. The driver is rated up to 16v, but there is a component on the driver that is only rated to 12v... so the stated max voltage is 12v.

Hope that helped -Adrian

Ask Rkcstr for a SI diode. They are like 10 cents.

Yeah, just use a 1N4001 diode just to be on the safe side. Your driver breaking down would be a dumb reason to lose a diode.

I personally haven't had any problems with that combination.

Of course YMMV.

Default Re: 10440 battery question

I asked rkcstr about it a while back because with a blu-ray build, 2 X 3.6/4.2 is really not a good enough supply voltage...

It would soon drop out of regulation. In a red build, it would be just fine. But a blu-ray build is better with 3 X 10440's.

A silicon diode will not hurt, but is not really needed with 3 X 10440's. They drop quickly under load and will not be over 12 volts for long. (if at all)

If you had 3 X larger 3.6/4.2 batteries in a build, then the silicon diode would be a very good idea...
