In daylight you would not be able to see a 5mW laser at 500 yards imo.

At night you could probably make it out. It really depends on the divergence of the laser (how big the dot gets over distance in this case) and what you're pointing it at, as well as ambient lighting.

It's not an expensive laser... try it out and see:)

Even though i could not see the actual beam, do you think i would be able to see the dot on the target?

You definitely will not be able to see the beam with a 5mW red laser.

As for the dot, at night you should be able to see it quite far.

You're just going to use a laser at 500 yds? :eek: How big is the target?
